Sananga

What it is

Sananga is a traditional Amazonian eye medicine made from the roots and bark of the Tabernaemontana shrub. Prepared as potent eye drops, it is known for its strong physical sensation and its ability to bring deep energetic cleansing.

Origins & Traditions

Sananga has been used for generations by Indigenous tribes of the Amazon for sharpening vision—both physical and spiritual. Traditionally, it has been applied before hunting to improve perception and focus, and in ceremony to clear stagnant energy and open the inner sight.

How it works

When applied to the eyes, sananga delivers a powerful, short-lived stinging sensation. Physically, it supports eye health, increases blood flow, and may help with vision-related conditions. Energetically, it works to dissolve blockages, remove “panema” (dense or heavy energy), and expand awareness.

Benefits

- Clears and sharpens physical vision

- Opens “spiritual sight” and intuition

- Removes stagnant or heavy energy

- Resets and aligns mental focus

- Deepens meditative or ceremonial states

When to use it

Sananga is often applied before meditation, prayer, or ceremonial work; when seeking a mental or energetic reset; or when feeling stuck, clouded, or energetically heavy.

What to expect

The sensation is intense—often described as a fiery or burning feeling in the eyes that lasts from 1–3 minutes. Tears and strong blinking are natural responses. After the sensation passes, many report deep clarity, lightness, and an expanded sense of awareness.

A note on respect & intention

Sananga is a powerful teacher and should be approached with care and presence. Set a clear intention before receiving, remain still and relaxed through the sensation, and allow the medicine to work on both the seen and unseen levels.
